The Greatest Birth on Earth
Over two thousand years ago in the city of Nazareth, a sweet young woman named Mary lived. Mary loved God and loved Joseph to whom she was given to marry.
One day Gabriel an angel came to Mary and informed her that God had favored her and had chosen her to become pregnant with a baby boy. Mary was afraid and confused. Mary thought to herself, “Why is this angel here?” (Luke 1:26-35)
The angel said,” Fear not, God has found favor in you.” Mary knew that she had never been with a man and wondered how she could become “with child.” The angel answered her thoughts; “The Holy Spirit shall give thee a miracle, you will bring forth a son and His name shall be called ‘Jesus’ He will be great and would rule and reign and His Kingdom would have no end.”
Now Joseph, a just and upright man became wise to his fiancé, Mary’s conception. (Matthew 1:18-25)
Joseph did not want to embarrass or cause injustice to Mary. He wanted to take her a way. One day while Joseph slept, he had a dream and an angel spoke to Joseph, “Fear not and take Mary as your wife, she is with child from the Holy Spirit. Mary shall have a son and everyone will be saved from their sins because of this baby boy.” (Luke 2:2-7)
After a while, the government decided that each person needed to be counted and to pay their taxes. Joseph and Mary had to travel to Bethlehem to register and it took a long time to arrive. There was no room for them at any motel, so Mary and Joseph stayed in a barn. While in the barn that night, Mary brought forth a son, wrapped him in cloths, and called him “Jesus.” (Isaiah 9:6-7)
